Is it over yet?

After wearing 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweatshirts, a coats, 2 stocking hats, and 2 pairs of gloves to walk the dogs this morning,  I am officially ready for spring.

What I Learned Today...

Prada can open the sliding glass door.

Now I just have to teach her how to shut it.

An Apple Pickin' Fam

Have you guys ever gone apple picking with your kids?  Was it real cute?  Maybe you took pics of the kids reaching way up in the trees as their dad held them high.  Maybe you took a pic of them frolicking in the fallen leaves.

I took my "kids" apple picking yesterday.  Small dog* hadn't been to the farm yet and Prada loves it there.  Plus it was a beautiful day.  I thought it would be relaxing to be out in the nice weather while the dogs wore themselves out.  Well, Prada rolled in a pile of crap while small dog barked at Big Bad.  I tied Prada up in the drive way when we got home and gave her a bath with the hose.

*We call him small dog because he hasn't earned his name yet.  When he stops being a dumbass, we'll start calling him Ruger.

He Told Me So

So tonight the three of us are going to bed all at the same time and Prada is standing in the hallway with Big Bad and I, looking around as if she doesn't know what to do. Big Bad says pick a bed and without missing a beat Prada immediately goes into his room to get on his bed.

I wonder how long that'll last??

She Ain't So Dumb

I think we've all agreed at some point or another that Prada is a pretty stupid (cute, but stupid) creature. Well, I'm second guessing that. Today when I got home from work she brought me my tennis shoes. She knows that whenever I put on my tennis shoes (which I don't know why they are called tennis shoes because I've never played tennis a day in my life), we are either going to the dog park or for a run. Apparently I don't work out enough for her to get the point that those aren't the only times I wear those shoes. This is even more impressive because I keep all my shoes in a giant Rubbermaid container and she was able to pick out (without harming, mind you) the correct shoes.

Even after I put them away because it gets dark too early to go to the dog park since.... yesterday, she continued to whine and stomp her paws (yes she does that, like a two year old... wait she is two) until I took her for a very brief walk around the neighborhood. Now that she had said mini-walk she is laying nicely in my bed.

Brat.

What I Learned Today...

There are attractive males that go to the dog park. Even better? I already know they like dogs which is requirement numero uno. I really need to start dressing better and making myself over a little before going there.

Good News, Bad News

Bad News: I found a dead mouse in the basement.

Good News: Prada didn't eat it this time.

Unconditional Love

I know my blog is not usually deep or sentimental, but I decided on our lazy Sunday this week that Prada and I would watch "Marley and Me." Now, if you've never seen that movie or don't understand what it is about that dog that I love so much... just watch Marley and Me and you'll understand. The first time I was that movie, Big Bad took me to the theater to see it and I cried, no wait, sobbed uncontrollably at the second half of the movie. The first half of the movie I could feel the elbows and looks from Big Bad, saying in his mind "this is your dog!" It's true, I couldn't have made it more like her if I tried. I know she's eaten eye glasses, peed on multiple beds, eaten through four kennels, broke my nose, etc etc... but there's no better feeling than coming home after a horrible ten hour day at work and seeing her laying on your bed and the tail wagging uncontrollably. Somehow she knows when I'm sick or down and she lays down beside me with her head on my leg.
I can't believe it's been over two years since I got the little beast. And man have those two years made a difference. There are days that go by now that I don't even yell at her once. Now on a lighter note, I don't know what this animal does while I'm gone. I used to think she would just chew on her bones and looks out the window, now I'm not so sure. I got home from the bar last night to find paw prints in the bath tub. I thought it was really odd.

What Prada Learned Today...

If you run to go "get to know" a dog as soon as they enter the dog park, they will inevitably have to pee and if it's a boy dog he will inevitably have the aim to hit your mouth.

Happy Birthday Shortcake.

Think Giving Your Kids Medicine Is Hard?

Try giving horrible tasting horse pill antibiotics and EYE DROPS to your dog. Who also, by the way, got told by the vet today that she is over weight.

After multiple vomiting episodes last week and the mucousy diarrhea I came home to last night (and the gunky eye she's had for a week and a half) this morning it was straight to the vet. She has conjunctivitis of the third eyelid (why the hell does anyone need three eyelids) and ate something that irritated her stomach such that she has to take an intestinal antibiotic for a week and go on a low fat diet.

Good news... Dr. said she was really good all morning. (( had to leave her there and go to work and then pick her up at lunch, and no that didn't cost extra.)

Na Na Na Na Na Na, They Say It's Your Birthday

Or the birthday I arbitrarily chose for you, conveniently the same as your uncle and cousin, so I could easily remember it.

Ah my little bookworm (I didn't even pose her like that). Too bad there's not a brain so accompany the cuteness. Since I already read the Mrs.' tribute to Punkin for her third birthday I thought I'd give a little tribute to my punkin on her birthday.
Well Scarecrow, in the pass two years I've watched you eat three pairs of prescription eyeglasses, pee on Papa's bed (which I thought for sure was going to get you a shotgun lunch), break three metal kennels and eat through one plastic one, rip two of your claws completely out of your back paw so that I had to rush you to the hospital and clean up gallons of blood, eat countless spatulas, turn on the gas stove while we were gone, push the screen out of my window so you could jump out of it while I was in the shower, figure out how to unlock the deadbolt of the front door, along with countless other things made me sure I wasn't going to keep you.
But, alas, here we are. We have survived the first two years of you life which (hopefully) are supposed to be the worse. There is good that comes with it. No matter how much I've yelled at you, you always wag your tail when I come home, you serve as my personal 100 degree heating pad in the winter months, and on times when it really counts like when I got food poisoning from Quiznos and was puking every twenty minutes or when I was waiting for the Garbage Disposal to get home to take me to the emergency room, you quietly laid next to me and didn't demand a thing.

Here's to two more years of continued improved behavior.

Happy Birthday to Prada, Punkin, and The General.

Pure Comedy

So after over a year and a half in my life, Prada is finally (thankfully) able to be around most of the kids and mostly behave herself. This is of course dependent on the fact that she has run at least ten miles beforehand. Anyway, the kids have differing opinions as to how they feel about Prada. For example, the White Tornado, Tank, Diesel, and Elizabeth Taylor tend to ignore her more than anything, Shortcake and Little Miss will play fetch with her, but I have to say it's Punkin's reaction that is by far my favorite. Notice all the laughing in the background... that would be her mother laughing hysterically at the intermittent panic attacks Punkin is having every time Prada turns in her general direction.

Survey

So today I was taking pictures of Prada all snuggled up on my bed, well, because she looked really cute. The Garbage Disposal asked how many pictures I had on my camera of her and said it's weird that I have so many pictures of her. (There's a lot) So I'm asking you, how many pictures is too many of your family pet? I know none of you currently have a family pet (Coach I'm counting on you to back me up on this), but if you did, would you take pictures?

Power of Suggestion

With all this talk of baby fever, I got to a little reminiscing myself. Well actually I was trying to take a picture of my burnt scalp that was going to be the subject of tonight's post with the camera on my computer, but it was too hard to see. (I get my hair chemically straightened on a regular basis and tonight when I got it done Kristy used a different brand that may or may not have left me feeling like Hades and my scalp looking like Mr. MC's cheeks on a brisk fall day. You may be thinking that my hair is an inch long and there's no way I need it chemically straightened, but I ask you... think Corey Mathews, season 2 of Boy Meets World.)
ANYWAY, I found a picture of Prada from the day I got here. Just a mere 3.5 months old. Wasn't she cute. And I thought since all of you actually got to see her in the flesh this weekend, which I know most of you probably hadn't in a long time if not ever.

She doesn't even look like the same dog. :'( I realize that's not the best picture but the damn dog didn't stop moving for the first... well she hasn't so much stopped moving to this point. We're crossing our fingers for soon. Here's something more recent, and possible cuter.

That's her laying under the futon. She's weird, I have no idea why she does it... but ain't it adorable?

Saturday Cleaning

So this morning when I woke up I was tidying up the place and decided to vacuum (I vacuum often due to my intolerance of having dog hair everywhere). I got to thinking, the main reason I have to vacuum daily is only because of the dog hair, otherwise we really aren't that dirty. Messy - yes, dirty - no. Being smart I decided to cut out the middle man and attempted to vacuum Prada. I figure if I vacuum all the hair straight off her back the amount she sheds will be less and thus I won't have to vacuum as often. It didn't go well.

September 12, 2008 A Day That Will Live In Infamy

Today ladies and gentlemen, is a day that should be remembered forever, something that will be remembered in history as future generations learn about their ancestors. I finished my first book. Ever. Yes I realize that not only am I twenty-two years old, but I am in graduate school and I will be a doctor here in two short years. What can I say? I'm not a reader. I did pledge before this past summer began that I would like to read a book start to finish over the summer. Well things happen and karaoke was sang and it did not happen. I did however, after talking to a friend that had a less than calm, well-behaved dog, decide what the book was that I wanted to read.

Yes, this book is about dogs. It's actually really good. It's not just about teaching a dog to sit or shake, it's about the psychology of dogs. I know what you're all thinking but it really is interesting information and it makes you rethink your approach to dogs. Which in my case I believe is a good thing. I realized things I was doing wrong with Prada and why I wasn't getting the response I wanted. If I could go back to the day I got her I would do almost everything differently, but we can't do that so we're just working in the now (which by the way is all dogs know). It's all about the energy.

Maybe I'll start a book club on here. Look for the next book review in 2030.
