To My Parents and All My Siblings...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all parents out there that have well-behaved children due to stern and consistent discipline. I was in the post office today and there was a child pulling things off the wall and screaming incessantly, while the mom stood there and said "stop." This was said without a bit of authority in her voice or moving to actually make him stop. I also had a child last week at "The House" that made us yell for her birthday even though it wasn't her birthday because she saw some other girl get it. The parents let this happen. I would not have allowed this to happen. I know I'm not a parent, but would any of you have let this happen? By the way, she was seven. A little too old for those types of shinanigans.

Then again, I was in the bank today also, and there was a little girl, probably around six or seven sitting quietly in a chair. She sat there quietly until her mother was done, and then without a word she walked nicely to the car. I wanted to say "thank you kind woman, for having a well behaved child that's not screaming in my ear when I have a headache."

Shame on those parents that allow their children to act horribly with no thought to the people around them or (worse) to the long-term effects on their children of a lack of consequences for their actions. What are they thinking?!?!

You should have said something to the mom in the bank. It's always nice to hear from strangers that they appreciate the manners shown by your children. It makes up for all those other times when people look at you in disgust because your 2 year old's speaking voice rivals that of a bull horn. =)

And no, I would not allowed either of the above mentioned scenairos to occur. It would have been spankings all around!

It's funny 'cause it's true. Unfortunately.
