Now I Understand

I remember when AL and BOTD bought their house and got their very own washer and dryer. AL was practically giddy with her first load of laundry washed in HER washer and dryer that I was so priveledged to witness. I made fun of her that she was that happy about washing clothes. Laundry has never been a task/chore that I minded. You put a load in, you walk away for awhile, you move it to the dryer and so forth. Simple and not time consuming, two qualities I enjoy. One of the perks in this apartment is having a washer and dryer in our basement which is conveniently attached to our apartment. It costs only a dollar to wash and nothing to dry versus the $1.25 it cost to do each last year.
Well the dryer broke last week and is still not fixed. Having not a clean pair of jeans or socks to my name, I was forced to go to a laundromat. I purposely went west instead of east. If you've ever been to Des Moines, you understand why. I did not go far enough west, or I maybe I expect too much out of laundromats. Anywho, three hours, five loads (in my defense I did bedding, including comforter, and a futon cover b/c I know as soon as Big Bad read that he thought once again that I own too much clothing), and lots and LOTS of quarters later I was done. As I do with any situation that money can help/prevent, I immediately started thinking about a washer and dryer being one of my first purchases. Go ahead AL, bask in your wisdom.

Oooh, James Patterson!

While homeownership has it's definite pros and cons, a washer and dryer on site that doesn't require coins for operation is by far one of the best. I don't like the word, but I've never hated anything more than the laundromat here in town that first year we were married. Seriously - I just spent a week's pay to wash and dry our clothes, yet they come home smelling like stale smoke because some genious thinks it's a good idea to smoke where others are trying to maintain that fresh from the dryer smell. I mean, come on!

Whew. It feels good to get that out of my system. Thanks for the impromptu therapy session!

I love James Patterson!! I'm listening (yeah, on my MP3, I know) to You've Been Warned now, one of the new ones. Which one are you reading?
The washer and dryer are probably the only two appliances that you'll ever be excited about buying!!

You know the downside to that is wisdom is that it came with age (and yes, I know I am leaving myself wide open with that remark, but we all know that I showed up more than a decade before you :)--I have to find something good about it :)
